Better Oral Health
Crowded teeth are hard to clean and maintain. Given time, they may contribute to
tooth decay, gum disease, and even tooth loss. Bad bites can result in abnormal
wear of tooth surfaces, difficulty in chewing, and damage to supporting bone and
gum tissue. Orthodontic treatment at an early age can result in better dental health
for a lifetime.
Adult Treatment Easier
Braces are not just for kids anymore. Nearly 1 million adults are wearing braces
today. Many adults whose parents were not able to provide orthodontic treatment for
them when they were children now have the resources to finally correct that
bothersome smile. The affordability of braces today, improved technology, better
comfort and more aesthetically pleasing braces are factors that contribute to adults'
decisions to get orthodontic treatment.
Self-Confidence
Straight teeth and a great smile improve the self-confidence of children and adults
alike. Children have the advantage of putting their best face forward as they meet
new acquaintances and potential employers. As adults age, crooked teeth may
become more obvious and create a feeling of self-consciousness. Orthodontic
treatment can align the crooked teeth, making them more attractive and easier to
keep clean.
Better Oral Hygiene
Oral hygiene is perhaps the greatest concern of most family dentists. The technology
of the Damon braces we use allows much improved hygiene while your braces are
on. Elastic ties are not necessary so the teeth and braces stay cleaner.
Faster and More Comfortable
The shortened treatment time that the Damon System offers has attracted more and
more adults to orthodontics. Its built-in sliding door allows the use of high-tech low-
force wires for more comfortable tooth movement.
Dental Restorations Possible
Orthodontic treatment can frequently make it possible for a severely broken tooth to
be restored by a dentist. A tooth that has been broken off at the gumline might be
impossible to repair because there is no longer enough root structure available to
attach an artificial crown. But, by quickly erupting the tooth with braces, the
orthodontist can expose enough of the root to allow placement of a crown.
Improved Gum Contour
Similar "forced eruption" techniques can be used to improve the
appearance of the gumline around teeth that did not erupt in a
normal position or to prepare an area of bone for a more ideal
implant placement.
